Bathroom Horror Stories (cause it’s October!)
I’m fairly certain I can say that we all have a bathroom horror story of some kind whether that’s sitting down and realizing there’s no toilet paper and you’re home alone or in a public restroom that must have fallen off the map cause all of a sudden no one is there and you simply need a few squares passed under the stall.
Or maybe you really have to go and every stall and/or urinal is full and everyone is taking their sweet time (cue concentrated breathing).
How about this one? Porto-o-potties… I have this irrational fear that I’m going to get picked up in the porto while using it and put on a truck and get taken away. Enough said!
In the spirit of Halloween aka my favorite holiday, I thought I would share a spooky, college bathroom experience I had. Let me set the scene…
One night, definitely after midnight (when I used to be able to stay up that late), I get a call from my friend that I need to come over to his dorm immediately. We were both RA’s (resident assistants) at the time; so, these calls weren’t out of the ordinary.
He and his girlfriend had just gotten back from a scary movie. She had gone up to his room and for some reason he needed to wash his hands. There’s a restroom on the first floor of each dorm. So, he proceeds to go into the bathroom to wash his hands. It’s a single person bathroom and the door wasn’t locked.
As he’s washing his hands, he looks in the mirror and on the toilet behind him there is a girl passed out leaning up against the wall. He freaks! And this is when he calls me to come over and investigate. He tells me what he saw and wants me to go in and make sure she’s not dead. Remember, he just came back from a scary movie.
Now, I’m not thrilled and I understand why it makes sense for me to do the checking. Good news, she’s not dead and her breathing is super slow. I pull out my trusty RA phone and call campus authorities. They come out, ask us all the questions and go into the bathroom. They are able to get her to wake up (sort of), get her presentable and carry her to the stretcher.
Turns out too much drinking and she passed out. She was fortunate to do it sitting up because she did have alcohol poisoning. She went to the hospital and ended up being fine.
I can’t say the same for my friend. He no longer enters single person bathrooms the same way.
