Out of Order
Just like restrooms are out of order sometimes, we as business owners can feel out of orders sometimes. No one likes to talk about pooping and we all do it. No once likes to talk about the challenges of being a business owner and we all have them.
Let me let you in on the not-so-glamourous side of entrepreneurship for a moment. Being a business owner can really stink sometimes. There is no manual to follow, there is no boss to report to, there is no steady paycheck to collect. EVERYTHING begins and ends with you. While freeing, that can also be so hard.
I was recently talking with a fellow business owner about the challenges of owning a business. They have a much larger, corporate business completely different than mine and, yet, we still face some of the same struggles.
They are at the point of possibly selling their business because the day-to-day challenges have become too much. They are having to spend too much time handling issues that, while related to the business, are not their forte. There is SO much to do that, most days, it is entirely overwhelming.
They didn't, I didn't and plenty of other business owners didn't get into business so that they could learn to be the legal department, the HR department, the marketing department or the design department. However, when you run a business, especially a solo or smaller outfit, you do get to learn all of those things…at least initially.
Why am I sharing this? Because it's important to remember that outsourcing can be a HUGE benefit to your business or even your personal tasks. If I said, “Would you pull your own tooth?” You'd look at me like I was crazy and say, “No, I have a dentist for that.” I urge you to take that same approach whether you are wanting to repaint your house or you are looking for someone to help with those tasks in your business that you don't know how, want to or enjoy doing. You will save yourself time, money and energy in the long run.
